Ottawa, ON – September 9, 2020
Yesterday, Kenny Chiu, Member of Parliament for Steveston-Richmond East, was appointed to the position of Shadow Minister for Diversity, Inclusion, and Youth. Upon receiving the appointment, MP Chiu had the following to say:
“I am thrilled to have been appointed to Erin O’Toole’s Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Minister for Diversity, Inclusion, and Youth. I am proud to be part of a welcoming, diverse party that respects the rights of all Canadians.
I am a first generation Canadian, a Canadian of Chinese descent, and I am very aware that Canada is a vast, diverse country, and that diversity is one of this country’s key strengths.
Erin O’Toole has said the following: “I believe that whether you are Black, white, brown, or from any race or creed, whether you are LGBT or straight, whether you are an Indigenous Canadian or have joined the Canadian family three weeks ago or three generations ago… you are an important part of Canada and you have a home in the Conservative Party of Canada.” This is a statement with which I wholeheartedly agree.
In the coming days and weeks I very much look forward to working with the Conservative Leader, reaching out to groups from all across this vast, diverse country to listen, to understand, and to share the positive, inclusive vision of Canada the Conservative Party of Canada holds.”
