It is Time the Government took Mental Health Seriously
The last year has made clear the mental health crisis we face. Our current government has left Canadians with a lack of resources to assist those suffering from mental health issues. It’s time to make it clear that mental health IS health, and to treat it properly.
While Healthcare is under provincial jurisdiction, that does not mean the federal government cannot assist. In order to help those suffering from poor mental health, the federal government must boost funding to provinces with the explicit purpose of designing effective programs and assistance for Canadians.
FOR MENTAL HEALTH COVERAGE
Under a Conservative government, we shall create incentives for employers to provide mental health coverage to employees.
CREATE A THREE-DIGIT
SUICIDE PREVENTION HOTLINE
Suicide prevention is too important to let slip through the cracks. The Conservative bill introduced by MP Doherty gives the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) 1 year to dedicate a three-digit suicide-prevention service. Statistics show that every 24 hours on average, 11 Canadians take their own life. Another 275 attempt to end their lives.
Canadians need a simple and easy to remember 3 digit number that people can call if they’re in trouble and need help. Assistance should only be three digits away.
